This Spring and early Summer give your children and grandchildren an adventure to "one of the top ten island destinations in North America" San Juan Islands and Friday Harbor . . .

The LA Times wrote "Give children adventures, not things . . . . .Find teachable moments in travel with children."

Children between the ages of 12 and 18 stay for $10.00 each
         per night, a 50% SAVINGS.
  2. San Juan Safaris Whale Watch Tour: save 10% for parents and grandparents and a FABULOUS cost for children under the age of 12 if you are staying at the Discovery Inn.
  3. Friday Harbor Whale Museum: Buy one adult ticket and receive a child's ticket FREE.

offer valid until June 15, 2008 and Exclusively for guests of the Discovery Inn and children accompanied by a parent or grandparent.

Here are 10 of the Adventures that you can experience with your children and grandchildren  .  .  and friends and someone special and  .  .  .
  1. A ferryboat ride thru waters that remind a person of the fjords of Norway
  2. Being on an island and a small community whose heritage goes back to the roots of the Pacific Northwest.
  3. Enjoy an outing with Orca whales. The Orca are friendly and impressive. You and your children can identify the Orca parents, grandparents and children as they swim past and your children can adopt a whale to follow thru the years at the Friday Harbor Whale Museum.
  4. Expose your children to art in the Westcott Bay Sculpture Park (18 acres of sculptures by local artists). It is a great experience and fun for all ages.
  5. Treasure hunt, build a beachcombers shanty, fly a kite on an Island beach. Look for a Wishing Stone just like the parents and children/grandchildren have been doing for the last 100 years on San Juan Island.
  6. Take your child or grandchild on a real flying adventure with Chris Marsden of San Juan Air Tours. He can show them that attitude can get you up and down in flying as well as real life.
  7. Make history real with a visit to the American and English Camps of the Pig War. (Also know as the San Juan Conflict, longest war in the history of the US and took place at the same time as the Civil War. General George Pickett and Henry Martyn Robert of "Robert's Rules of Order" were part of this Island and US history.
  8. Get an Island Bird and Wildlife Check List and see if you can see them all during your island travels.
  9. If your child or grandchild is 12 years or older, introduce them to kayaking in "one of the best kayaking destinations in the US and Canada". 3 and 5 hours tours are available and also 3-day tours. Now that is an adventure!
  10. Let your children express themselves with photography. There are so many wonderful subjects here and they may show you a different way of seeing them.
  11. Take an exploratory hike, 20 minutes or all day.

CNN reportedly declared that Friday Harbor (or the San Juan Islands) had the best summer weather of anywhere in the country - more days with 75 degrees and sunny skies than anywhere else. I did not see this but heard of it. Something about "95 days of 75 degrees."
